Europe's technology hub

New Technology Center Building

The project centers on a new building covering an area of over 40,000 m². Where a small switchgear facility once stood, a building unlike any other is now being constructed. It must meet the highest standards, demonstrate maximum stability, withstand high floor loads and at the same time be scalable and flexible. Every square meter counts and every kilogram is crucial to ensure that the overall project can realize its full potential.

Energy core meets energy shell

The Technology Center Laufenburg will be completely covered with a solar shell. State-of-the-art photovoltaic technology ensures that the building blends perfectly into the landscape while still reflecting innovation and sustainable construction.

Facts and figures

The strategic location at the Star of Laufenburg enables a direct connection to the highest possible grid capacity. This unique selling point makes the location and the project a perfect match, because there is no second chance for an opportunity like this today.

Photovoltaic facadeAdorned with Switzerland's largest solar panel system mounted on a facade, the TCL is a unique building of the future.
MWSolar energyThe photovoltaic facade can produce around 2 MW of energy at peak times, which is used directly for processes in the TCL.
Floor spaceThe net usable floor space inside the building is around 12,000 m² per floor. That is equivalent to almost two soccer fields.
Picking areaThe front side offers space for up to 300 office workstations.

Layout and diagram

The Technology Center Laufenburg (TCL) is divided into several areas: server infrastructure, power electronics, battery storage tanks, logistics and installation areas. The entrance area houses hundreds of square meters of office and assembly space, providing direct access to the storage facility and data center.

Info: The visualization corresponds to the planned status as of December 2025. Deviations in layout and subdivision are possible.

"An architectural statement"

Christian Frei, Frei Architekten Aarau

“The Technology Center Laufenburg is a building that transcends its architectural appearance. It is a place where energy, digitalization and architecture come together in a new way. The building’s structure responds to the high functional demands of a battery storage facility and an AI data center just as naturally as it fulfills the need for a clear, timeless architectural language.”

District Heating Network

The waste heat from our AI data center at the Technology Center Laufenburg (TCL) can power not only Laufenburg but an entire regional ecosystem. Our heat extends for several kilometers and can transform fossil-fuel-fired power plants into backup systems. For us, sustainability isn’t just a concept — it’s actively planned and implemented.

Industrial Power Grid

To supply power to the Technology Center Laufenburg, FlexBase is building an industrial grid with a connection to Switzerland's highest grid level, comparable to the electricity highway. The grid is used for the fine distribution and conversion of electrical energy to lower voltages, to which the individual battery storage units and data center consumers are connected.
